Craigavon ED Staff Run Belfast Marathon for PIPS Hope and Support
On April 30th, 2023, a group of twenty-five dedicated staff members from Craigavon Emergency Department (ED) participated in the Belfast Marathon. Their goal was to raise awareness and funds for PIPS Hope and Support, a charity that provides vital services in the Southern Trust area to reduce the number of people who take their own lives and equip communities with the skills to recognize and respond to emotional distress.
For the Craigavon ED staff, running the marathon was not just about physical fitness. It was also about raising awareness for a cause they believed in. Their motivation was driven by their desire to support those who have been affected by suicide or emotional distress.
The team, consisting of doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, trained for months leading up to the marathon, dedicating their time and effort to a cause they were passionate about. Their hard work paid off, as they raised a massive £4,769.26 for PIPS Hope and Support.
At the presentation, participant Erin McArdle, a nurse at Craigavon ED, spoke about the profound impact that PIPS Hope and Support has had on their community. “PIPS Hope and Support has made a significant effect in our community and as a team, we wanted to do something to support them with their mission. We express our gratitude to everyone who donated and encouraged the team, our participation in the marathon will have a positive impact on the community and PIPS Hope and Support. The funds raised will contribute to the provision of much-needed mental health support services across the Southern Trust area.
The sense of accomplishment and pride felt by the team after completing the marathon is comforting. Even though our legs were sore and tired, our hearts were full knowing we made a difference. We pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us in any way.”
Brian Hyland, the representative of PIPS Hope and Supports, commended the twenty-five individuals for their participation in the Belfast Marathon. “The Craigavon ED staff exceeded their fundraising target, and we are thankful that they have donated the funds to PIPS Hope and Support, which will make a positive impact across the Southern Trust area. Our charity provides immediate therapy to anyone with suicidal thoughts, high levels of anxiety, poor mental health, or bereaved by suicide. The ED team's efforts have raised significant awareness and promoted the importance of mental health. The dedication to our cause by the participants is truly inspiring, and their efforts will undoubtedly make a difference. PIPS Hope and Support commends the team and thanks the many individuals who endorsed the team with their messages of support and contributions.”
