Why We Exist

Providing Hope. Saving Lives. Supporting Communities.

PIPS Hope & Support was founded in response to the tragic loss of Séamas McCabe, who died by suicide at just 20 years old on April 29, 2003. His passing deeply affected his family, friends, and the wider community. Determined to ensure that no one else would have to navigate such loss alone, his loved ones came together to create a safe, supportive space for those bereaved by suicide.

What began as a small, grassroots volunteer initiative has grown into a leading crisis intervention and suicide prevention organisation, providing life-saving support, education, and advocacy across Newry, Mourne, Down, the SHSCT, Upper Bann and beyond.

At PIPS Hope & Support, we believe that no one should face crisis, emotional distress, or bereavement alone. Suicide has a devastating impact, but with the right support, awareness, and intervention, lives can be saved, and hope can be restored.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple but powerful:
To provide immediate, compassionate support to individuals in crisis.
To support those bereaved by suicide, offering comfort, guidance, and community.
To educate and raise awareness about suicide prevention, breaking the stigma and empowering people to seek help.
To build resilient communities, ensuring that no one has to suffer in silence.

A Lifeline for Those in Crisis

At PIPS Hope & Support, we are committed to ensuring that no one faces crisis alone. Our Drop-In Centre serves as a welcoming place for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts, self-harm, emotional distress, or bereavement. We offer:

Immediate crisis intervention
One-to-one counselling & therapy
Support groups for those bereaved by suicide
Home visits for affected families
Suicide prevention training & awareness

Despite limited resources, the demand for our services continues to grow, highlighting the urgent need for accessible, community-driven mental health support.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that suicide should never be a hidden or taboo subject. Through education, awareness, and open conversations, we can reduce stigma, provide life-saving support, and offer hope to those struggling.

PIPS Hope & Support is more than a charity—we are a community, a resource, and a lifeline for those in need.
