In Memory of Baby Conleth
On Friday 27th December, the Courtney Family from Newry hosted a Charity Gaelic and Hurling match at Pairc Esler to raise awareness and funds for local suicide prevention charity PIPS Hope and Support and UNIQUE (Understanding Chromosome & Gene Disorders) in memory of their son, Baby Conleth Courtney.
Players from the Shamrocks Senior Gaelic team and Hurling team participated in the fundraiser that seen each half been played between Gaelic and Hurling. Following on from this, the Courtney family held a raffle and night of music in the Shamrocks Clubrooms which was joined by family and friends of the Courtney family resulting in a heart-warming total of £7,555.16 being raised in Conleth’s memory.
On Friday 31st January, Neil, Caoimhe and Tiarnán Courtney presented PIPS Hope and Support with the proceeds totaling an exceptional £3,777.58 with another £3,777.58 presented to UNIQUE.
Neil and Caoimhe Courtney thanked all those who participated and/or supported their event in any way in Conleth’s memory “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received over this past year and in particular the generosity with this fundraising event in Conleth’s memory. We as a family wanted to give something back for the support we have received and believed in doing so in aid of PIPS Hope and Support and UNIQUE which are two charities we hold dearly. As a family, we would like to thank each and every individual, and in particular the men who participated and the Shamrocks GAC for everything they done. Please know we are amazed with the support and take great comfort from this.”
PIPS Hope and Support extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Neil, Caoimhe, Tiarnán and the players for their generosity to PIPS Hope and Support in Conleth’s memory. The donation we have received from the Courtney family will make a huge difference to the lives of families and individuals who are mentally or emotionally distressed and in need of meaningful support, helping to save lives from suicide. We are thankful to Neil, Caoimhe, Tiarnán and all those involved for the support by any means and send best wishes to all.
