Joan Porter
Joan became a qualified Integrative Counsellor in 2019 and has since been providing her services on a part-time basis with PIPS Hope and Support since March 2020. She also collaborates with Action Cancer NI and Inspire Wellbeing.
Joan is dedicated to assisting clients who seek counselling for a variety of issues such as bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and self-esteem. She understands that each client is unique, and what may be effective for one individual may not work for another. Therefore, she incorporates elements from different therapeutic approaches to help clients explore and manage their challenges.
In her practice, Joan utilizes various therapeutic modalities:
- Person-Centered Therapy: Joan views the client as an expert on themselves, guiding them towards reaching their full potential while providing acceptance, honesty, and unconditional positive regard.
- Psychodynamic Therapy: Joan assists clients in bringing subconscious thoughts and feelings to the surface, helping them understand how deeply rooted emotions impact their present experiences.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Joan supports clients in challenging unhelpful or negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through the implementation of diverse strategies.
Joan has a particular interest in trauma counselling and is actively pursuing further training in this specialized area. Outside of her counselling practice, Joan enjoys hiking throughout Ireland.
